Section-I
1. Discuss the nature and subject matter of Urban Sociology. Critically evaluate its relationship with other social sciences in the study of urban society.
2. Explain the ecological perspective in Urban Sociology. Critically examine the ecological processes of invasion, succession, concentration, and centralization.
3. Compare the socio-economic and political characteristics of ancient, medieval, and colonial cities in India with special reference to Ujjain, Shahjahanabad, and Kolkata.
4. Analyse the major trends and patterns of urbanisation in India since Independence. Discuss the factors responsible for regional disparities in urban growth.
5. Trace the development of Urban Sociology in India. Critically evaluate the contributions of major Indian sociologists to the growth of the discipline.

6. Discuss the ‘West Bengal Model’ of urbanisation as an alternative to metropolitan-centric urban development. Critically evaluate its significance and limitations in promoting sustainable urbanisation in India.
7. Examine the processes of continuity and change in the family as a consequence of urbanisation.
8. Critically analyse the impact of economic liberalisation on the occupational structure of urban India.
9. Discuss the major approaches to the management and improvement of slums. Critically evaluate their effectiveness in the Indian context.
10. Discuss the objectives of urban planning. Examine its role in addressing the challenges of contemporary urban development.
