Section-I

2. Discuss the distinction between the ‘book-view’ and the ‘field-view’ of caste. Assess the contributions of M. N. Srinivas, F. G. Bailey, McKim Marriott, and O. M. Lynch in understanding the changing dynamics of caste in India.
3. Discuss the major feminist perspectives on family, marriage and kinship. Evaluate how feminist scholarship has transformed the sociological understanding of patriarchy, gender, and power within the family.
4. Discuss the relative significance of land reforms, the Green Revolution, and the shift from caste-based to class-based agrarian relations in India.
5. Analyse the emergence and expansion of the Indian middle class in the context of economic liberalisation and globalisation. Evaluate its changing social, cultural, and political role in contemporary India.
Section-II
6. Compare and critically analyse the perspectives of Verrier Elwin and G. S. Ghurye on tribal society in India.
7. Examine the role of religion in processes of social change in contemporary India.
8. Discuss the contributions of Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, and Max Weber to the understanding of religion as a social institution.
9. Critically analyse the nature and significance of religious diversity in India. How have pluralism, coexistence, and inter-religious interactions shaped Indian society?
10. Discuss the major typologies of social movements. Distinguish between old and new social movements with suitable examples from the Indian context.
